Hi, I’m Courtney—the baker behind Court Takes the Cake.
I’m a Bay Area native and a former corporate girlie who spent years in public accounting before finally trading spreadsheets for slow mornings and warm ovens. It wasn’t exactly a straight path, but baking has always been quietly waiting for me in the background.
I first fell in love with baking in high school after taking my very first cooking class and somehow winning best dessert. From there, baking became something I came back to again and again—holiday cookies, birthday cakes, girls night cookies, and the occasional “just because” cupcakes.
And then came 2020. Like a lot of people, I suddenly found myself with more time. I picked up sourdough—yes, I named my starter Frankie, don’t judge—and something just clicked. It didn’t just fill the time—it reminded me how much I genuinely love the process of baking. The rhythm of it. The creativity. The way something simple can turn into something really special.
Since then, baking has become so much more than a hobby. It’s how I celebrate, how I show up for the people I love, and why I’m usually the one bringing dessert.
It’s about making something with intention, learning new techniques, experimenting, getting it wrong, and trying again. But more than anything, it’s about sharing what I make with the people around me—friends, family, neighbors, and now my new niece —too little to be an official taste-tester just yet, but give her time.
This space is where I bring all of that together—seasonal bakes, cozy classics, a little sourdough, and recipes that feel simple enough for everyday, but special enough for the moments worth celebrating.
